We have tried to keep an accurate record of all costs incurred with the conversion of our bus. We could not keep track of the many phone calls or the kilometres traveled searching for what we needed. The table below gives an idea of our costs and where we spent our funds.

$19000.00

Vehicle related (tyres, repairs, rego, transfers, insurance etc..)

$7698.02

Installed Item (Fridge, solar panels, TV etc..)

$18543.66

$9002.08

Tools/Misc. (Brushes, turps, emery paper etc..)

$748.45

Total

$54992.21

Now that we have traveled more than 10,000 kilometres in the completed home we have discovered a few flaws and to our delight many positive things we have done.

The best three things we feel we have done are;

  1. Changed the windows giving us very good cross ventilation.
  2. Installed a good electrical system. Especially the 24 volt compressor fridge. (It has worked perfectly in conditions below 0 degrees around Canberra to over 45 degrees in the Top End.)
  3. Easy clean surfaces from floor to ceiling. (Vinyls, laminates, varnished finishes. We have used no carpet!)

Some changes we would make;

  1. Install more roof vents and or hatches. (Cross ventilation is no help with no breeze in 43 degrees)
  2. Install a stove range hood exhaust fan. (To remove cooking smoke/oil but also heat)
  3. Reconsider our type of air conditioning. (Perhaps investigate a house split system as others we have met have done)
