After leaving Watarrka we stopped by Kings Creek Station to say our goodbyes to the Kennett family. These great people run a camel ride business at the station. We arrived in Alice at about midday after spending the night at a rest area on the Lasseter hwy. From the 14/9/02 - 23/9/02 we stayed at the National Road Transport Hall of Fame and volunteered some work to earn our keep. The lookout over Alice Springs gave us a good perspective of the town and the post office gave us the opportunity to send some postcards. |
During this time we visited the West Macdonnell Ranges and went to Glen Helen, Ormiston Gorge, The Ochre pits and Ellery Creek Big Hole. It was a beautiful day with lots to see and remember. While on the walking trail at Ormiston Gorge, Raymond, Melissa and Sarah were fortunate to see a Perentie goanna sharing the track. Without hesitation we took a wide birth around him and a couple of photos before continuing on our way. |
Well worth seeing in Alice Springs is the Desert Park. There are interesting walks of desert, river, sand country and woodland habitats with many guide presentations. The nocturnal house and birds of prey display were great to see. We also watched a big screen movie titled "Changing Heart" which depicted the evolution of Australia's desert over the past 4,500 million years. Overall this was a very informative day for all. |
