The Dwellingup Forest Heritage Centre was very informative and focused on the local Jarrah forest. This centre was an excellent educational experience. It gave opportunities to read about the local forests and the relationship of the plants and animals that share it. A short but interesting tree top walk gave us a close up look at the canopies of the Jarrah trees. Another section was dedicated to a reconstructed woodcutters camp highlighting the tough conditions that these people lived and worked under.

There was a woodworking centre where local and visiting craftspeople can be watched as they make their items. The centre also has a shop where many of these items can be purchased. It was amazing to see what some people could make from wood.

Arrived in Bunbury and visited the Big Swamp Nature Reserve which is a wetland with paper barks and reeds within suburbia. The Mangrove Boardwalk near the port was very interesting with informative signs.

After window shopping in Perth including the interesting London Court, we bought some hot chips and spent the afternoon relaxing at Kings Park and enjoying the surroundings. Took some nice photos of the flowers in the Park especially some of the dramatic banksias.

Freemantle was a nice place with many very old, historic, stone buildings. We met friends and had a barbeque lunch while staying at Woodman Point just south of Freemantle. A walk on the cold and windy jetty certainly woke us up. Many people were bravely trying to catch fish while some teenage boys were snorkelling to tell their friends where the fish were swimming. An approach I had not seen before.

The Margaret River area featured some very scenic drives. With large Karri trees, beautiful rolling hills and the shady Margaret River. We certainly enjoyed our time there. The highlight was our visit to Lake Cave which was a stunning pristine chamber of limestone 62 metres below the ground. We found the reflections and calcite formations of this cave most impressive.
