Litchfield National Park

Litchfield is well worth more than just a fleeting visit when in the Top End. We had a great time swimming at both Florence Falls and at Wangi Falls. Although we didn't see any, signs indicated that fresh water crocodiles were present. We swam anyway as did many other visitors. The water was beautiful and sitting under the falls themselves was revitalizing.

We also visited the Magnetic Termite mounds beside the main road with easy access for all. A boardwalk allowed visitors to veiw these natural buildings without feet disturbing their surroundings. It was incredible to see these mounds so wide and yet so thin.

Wyndham

The children were impressed by a 20 metre crocodile at the entrance to town. Made of steel and concrete they were happy to smile underneath the jaws for Mums ongoing photography practice.

The drive up to the top of the Bastion Range to the five Rivers lookout was amazing. We watched the sunset, an impressive sight and soaked in the sweeping views.

Derby

While on the King River Road we visited the Prison Boab Tree and were both amazed and saddened by the history of its use. Afterwards we looked at the old Derby Jail and read information plaques of the people whose stories gave us some small insight into their lives.

The wharf at Derby was worth a visit. Made of concrete and Iron it was designed to cope with the highest tides in Australia. Originally the Jetty built in 1885 for 3000 pounds was of timber construction.
