Outlook 2016 Email Setup

These instructions explain how to set up a Shoalhaven Internet POP3 email account in Microsoft Outlook 2016.

Before You Start

You will need:

Your username is normally the part of your email address before the @ symbol.

Example:
Email address: jsmith@shoalhaven.net.au
Username: jsmith

Open the Outlook Mail Settings

  1. Click the Start button at the bottom-left of the Windows screen, or press the Windows key on your keyboard.
  2. Type Control Panel.
  3. Click Control Panel when it appears in the search results.
  4. At the top-right of the Control Panel window, find View by and select Small icons.
  5. Find and click Mail (Microsoft Outlook). On some computers it may simply be called Mail.
  6. The Mail Setup window will appear. Click Email Accounts.
  7. To add a new email account, click New.
  8. To change an existing Shoalhaven Internet account, select the account and click Change.
Can't find Control Panel?

Hold down the Windows key and press R.

A small Run window will appear. Type:

control

then press Enter.

Account Information

When asked for the type of email account, select POP or POP3.

Enter:

Incoming Mail Settings

POP3 Incoming Mail Server
Account Type POP3
Incoming Server mail.shoalhaven.net.au
Username The first part of your email address.
Example: jsmith
Password Your Shoalhaven Internet email password
Port 995 with SSL/TLS
or
110 with no security

Outgoing Mail Settings

SMTP Outgoing Mail Server
Outgoing Server smtp.shoalhaven.net.au
Port 587
Security TLS, STARTTLS or NONE
Authentication Required
Username The first part of your email address.
Password Your Shoalhaven Internet email password
Use TLS or STARTTLS where supported. Some older versions of Outlook and other older email programs may require the security setting to be NONE.

Configure Outgoing Mail Authentication

  1. Click More Settings.
  2. Select the Outgoing Server tab.
  3. Tick:

    My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication.
  4. Select Log on using.
  5. Enter your Shoalhaven Internet username and password.
  6. If available, tick Remember password.

Advanced Settings

  1. Select the Advanced tab.
  2. Set the Incoming Server (POP3) port to 995 if using SSL/TLS.
  3. If SSL/TLS is not being used, set the incoming port to 110.
  4. Set the Outgoing Server (SMTP) port to 587.
  5. Select TLS or STARTTLS for the outgoing encrypted connection if available.
  6. Older email programs may require NONE.
  7. Leave SPA (Secure Password Authentication) disabled.
  8. Click OK.

Test the Account

  1. Click Test Account Settings.
  2. Outlook should connect to the incoming mail server and send a test message.
  3. If both tests succeed, click Next.
  4. Click Close or Finish.
Can receive email but cannot send?

Check that:

Your Shoalhaven Internet email account should now be ready to use in Outlook 2016.
